Pile-up causes traffic chaos

HUGE traffic tailbacks built up on the A14 in Suffolk after a road smash involving up to six vehicles.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway near Needham Market at around 11am on Saturday.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway near Needham Market at around 11am on Saturday.

The air ambulance landed at the scene and airlifted an elderly man on a stretcher to hospital. The extent of his injuries was not known.

Traffic also built up on the Ipswich-bound section of the dual carriageway as emergency services dealt with the accident aftermath. Queues trailed back as far as Woolpit.

Less than an hour earlier emergency services were despatched to the A140 near Scole after another collision.

No one was believed to have been hurt in the smash although paramedics were sent to the scene.
