PILGRIMS came together at Iken to mark the 1,350th anniversary of the monastry in the village.

The Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich sailed along the River Alde from Orford on Saturday before arriving at Iken, near Woodbridge for the gathering.

St Botulf, an early pioneer of the Benedictine movement in England and traditionally seen as a guardian of travellers, established the village monastery in about 652AD.

The saint, who was born in East Anglia, decided to build his monastery in Iken because of its isolated location.
