Pinewood Parish Council objects to Wolsey Grange proposals

Parish councillors have objected to proposals for a large scale development of new homes, shops and a primary school on the edge of Ipswich.

The application was dismissed by members of Pinewood Parish Council because developers Taylor Wimpey had failed to provide them with a traffic plan.

Councillors have now asked to see more detailed plans about how the influx in traffic in the area would be dealt with. The deadline for the parish council to give its view is tomorrow, but it has appealed for more time.

However, it is Babergh District Council that will have the ultimate decision on whether the site gets the go ahead, with Pinewood acting as one of a number of ‘statutory consultees’.

If Taylor Wimpey succeeds in its planning application then work could start by the end of next year, with the development being completed within the next 10 years.

The site – marketed as Wolsey Grange – will be located in the Poplar Lane area of Sproughton and will include up to 475 houses, four hectares of employment land, a primary school and public open space including children’s play areas.

At Pinewood’s monthly meeting on Monday, parish chairman Robert Manning said: “Until we see a traffic plan we can’t give a thought on the application. So we are going to object on that basis.”

A Taylor Wimpey spokeswoman said the company was in ongoing discussions with Suffolk County Council and Highways England about the proposals.

She added: “We will continue to work with the local authority to ensure any concerns about traffic are resolved where possible and we look forward to Babergh District Council reaching a decision on our application in due course.”
