VILLAGERS in Shotley are celebrating today after plans to build 325 homes on the peninsula were turned down.

A government planning inspector listened to arguments from Haylink, the company which proposed the development on the former HMS Ganges site, and residents, before deciding not to grant permission to build the homes.
