Plans were approved in November 2012 to build 63 homes on parcels of land near Broadlands Way in Rushmere St Andrew as phases six and seven of development there.

The plans will see land between Brendon Drive and Ditchingham Close, land behind the One Stop off Broadlands Way, and land on the corner of Broadlands Way with Shrubland Drive developed.

The development will feature 23 bungalows built as phase six, 24 detached houses which represents phase seven and 16 affordable homes.

An archaeological exploration of the area has failed to find any significant finds, meaning work has moved a step closer to beginning.

The report said: “With such negative results in relation to archaeological features and paucity of stray finds of any age save one flint core of prehistoric date it can only be concluded that this site lies outside areas of more intense past activity to the north.”

The report added: “Based on the evaluation results it is recommended that no further archaeological investigations need to be carried out on this proposed development site on land off Shrubland Drive, Bixley Farm, Rushmere St Andrew.”

The application is one of the last areas of development to be carried out around the Bixley Farm site which has taken place over the last two decades, providing scores of new homes for the east of Ipswich.

The development effectively links housing on the edge of old Kesgrave with Ipswich itself, which, coupled with development of the former St Clement’s Hospital in Foxhall Road, is helping meet the demand for homes in the area.

In July, plans for 23 homes off Bixley Drive (phase eight) were withdrawn by developer Chater Homes due to possible changes over the number of homes and comments made during the consultation.

However, a revised application of those plans is expected to be submitted later this year with all the revisions and issues set to have been addressed.

A spokesman from agents Feilden and Mawson was approached for comment but unavailable.
