TRAIN companies are looking to transform a Suffolk train line, it has been announced today.

The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) wants to electrify a number of diesel-powered routes running across the country in a 500m project.

One of the lines which ATOC is looking to transform is between Ipswich and Felixstowe.

But the organisation has warned that it could take years for the work to be completed and would cause disruption.

ATOC chief executive Michael Roberts said: “Over the next 30 years, the demand for rail is likely to double and we must continue to improve our existing network if we are to keep up with this growth in passenger numbers, as well as planning for new capacity such as high speed lines.
