Plans for a therapeutic residential home for children in Ipswich have been revived, we have learnt.
Ipswich Borough Council granted planning permission for Duke’s Meadow on the site of the Henley Road Indoor Cricket Centre three years ago.
The residential care facility, which would have provided care to 20 children aged between seven and 11, was billed as the first of its kind in Suffolk, but work was never completed. But the borough council is now considering renewing the planning permission put forward by its new owners as it was due to lapse.
The proposal in full is for the erection of a children’s home for 20 children aged seven to 11, on-site educational and therapy facilities, associated car parking and landscaping.
The facility was planned to be split into three separate buildings, according to the original feasibility report published by the borough council in February 2011.
The major residential building would include classrooms, play and dining facilities would be located on the ground floor and bedrooms would be located above, on the first floor. The second building would be the parent unit, which would be used during weekdays for therapy and administration.
