Pog the Pig, the 40-stone porker who became a local celebrity in Ipswich, has sadly died

His former home has been put up for sale, with the developer admitting he formed a close bond with Pog the Pig.
The pet porker hit the news three years ago when he was unwittingly snapped taking a snooze in the lounge of his home in The Driftway, off Britannia Road, when the property was put up for sale.
He and his owner lived in a converted shed near the property while Alex Robertson, a self-employed builder who bought the house, converted the former meeting house into a two-bedroom detached property,
Mr Robertson, 33, from Ipswich, said: “What I didn’t know at the time – and this was before the news stories – when I first viewed the property was that there was a pet pig inside.
“When I first saw him, I thought he was a bean bag in the corner of the room. I casually walked up to it and suddenly his big head swung around and scared the life out of me! I ran out and the estate agent was in hysterics.
“But I was still pretty interested. I have seen worse people than that.”
He bought the property for £110,000 in September 2014 and it was put on the market for £275,000 two weeks ago by Keystone estate agents.
Mr Robert admitted he formed a close, if unusual, bond with Pog the Pig while refurbishing the property.
“I didn’t have a choice,” he said. “Every time someone came to the property, he ran out. He loved the attention. We had to usher him back into his shed, but people just wanted to take a photo with him.
“Then he would randomly decide to go for a walk to The Brickmakers Arms pub or the park. You couldn’t do anything about it. I had to follow him about numerous times. One day he rolled out and completely demolished the shed. It was not ideal, but amusing.”
Pog, thought to be around seven years old, sadly died earlier this year.
Mr Robertson said: “I think it was around March. Everyone was pretty happy to see the back of Pog, unfortunately!
“But it was pretty sad. He is still a pet and had become a local celebrity. But obviously you don’t want a random 40st pig living next door.”
