Suffolk police, the Shingle Street Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT), and the Joint Services Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to the scene after a member of public found an item on the beach on Saturday evening.

The team identified and removed what was found to be a spent shell.

A spokesperson for CRT said: “Shingle Street Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) were tasked to Orford Ness, to assist the Joint Services Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team locate a reported ordnance. The EOD removed the ordnance, which was a spent shell.”

A spokesperson for the EOD added: “An EOD team attended an incident at 18.15 on 25th August after a member of public found an item on the beach. Upon inspection the item, a possible shell, was returned by the EOD for disposal. No further action was required.”
