Police are investigating after two boys were approached by a man with a knife near Morrisons in Ipswich.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery in an alleyway near the supermarket, in Sproughton Road, which happened at around 5.45pm on Friday.
A 15-year-old boy was on his bike with a younger boy when he was approached by a man who had a knife in his waist band.
Police chiefs said: “The suspect demanded the older boy hand over the bike before punching him in the head and then running off empty-handed.
“The suspect is described as a white male, aged in his 20s and wearing a black hoodie, black baggy jeans and black trainers.”
Officers also want to trace two other people who they believe may have witnessed the attack.
They are described as a woman aged between 40 and 50, who was walking a small white dog, and a man in his 20s who was wearing dark blue work clothes and carrying a drawstring bag.
Witnesses to the attack and anyone with information should call Ipswich CID at Suffolk police on 101, quoting reference 37/28561/18.
