A cyclist was punched in the head by a man who asked him for a cigarette on Monday.

The victim, aged 20, was cycling on Nacton Road, Ipswich at around 7.10pm and slowed down for traffic.

A man approached him and asked for a cigarette and as the victim was retrieving one he was punched in the side of the head and fell to the floor.

The offender then stole the victim’s bike and cycled off towards the town centre. The victim sustained pain to his head.

The offender is described as a white man, of a slim build, clean shaven, aged in his 20s, had short shaven hair and was wearing a navy coloured baseball cap with a curved peak and a dark grey zip-up cargo jacket.

The stolen bike is described as a ladies mint green and blue coloured Apollo mountain bike.
