A man is in hospital in a serious condition after the car he was driving crashed in a Suffolk village.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened just after 5pm yesterday in Alderton, to come forward.

A white Citroen Saxo which had been travelling east crashed in Ramsholt Road.

Two men were inside the vehicle. The driver, in his early 30s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance, while the passenger, in his mid 20s, was taken to Ipswich hospital with minor injuries.

The driver was initially reported to have life-threatening injuries, but police today described his condition as serious.

Teams from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk Constabulary, the East of England Ambulance Service and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

The road was closed until around 10pm.

Anyone who saw the vehicle in the area around this time or anyone who saw the collision itself is asked to call the Roads Policing Unit at Suffolk Constabulary headquarters by dialling 101, quoting CAD number 377 of June 19.
