A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted by an intruder in her own home in Ipswich.
A manhunt was launched by police over the weekend after a man got into the victim’s Nacton home shortly before 8pm on Friday and fled after being scared off by her screams.
Police carried out a major search of the area – including use of the police helicopter and tracker dogs – but were unable to find him.
Tonight, police said a 63-year-old man was arrested this evening “as part of ongoing enquiries into what happened”.
He has been taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Police are continuing to ask anyone with information about the incident to call Suffolk Constabulary on 101 quoting reference IE/15/529 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
