Under the banner of SMILE (Safety Makes Ipswich Life More Enjoyable) officers have teamed up with The Evening Star and other organisations to implement a strategy laced with humour.
In the battle to win hearts and minds of people of all ages, police are keen to portray the town centre as the domain of those seeking a peaceful and enjoyable evening out.
Although their approach has a lighter touch, they also stress there will be a price to pay for alcohol-fuelled troublemakers who misbehave.
