SUFFOLK'S police chiefs have refused to back plans which would see the county's force merge with the neighbouring forces of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
During a meeting of the Suffolk Police Authority last night police bosses rejected proposals by the Home Secretary Charles Clarke to create one constabulary for the three counties.
However the plans may still go ahead as the Home Secretary has the power to insist on a merger.
