A police presence will remain outside a home in Ipswich tonight as officers continue to investigate the circumstances around a firearm incident.

Suffolk Constabulary was contacted at lunchtime on Sunday by a member of the public with concerns for the safety of a resident in Kelly Road and reporting exterior damage to the resident’s front door.

Tonight, police have confirmed that shots were fired outside a property from a “low calibre weapon”.

This is the second firearm incident in Kelly Road, located in the Chantry area of the town, this year.

In June, police said a gun had been fired during a separate incident in which items were set on fire and thrown at a house.

Helen Armitage, who represents the Chantry division at Suffolk County Council, has labelled the situation “very worrying”.

Suffolk Constabulary is continuing to appeal to witnesses to the most recent incident, believed to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

Anyone with any information should contact the Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Major Investigation Team on 101 quoting crime reference number 37/71637/17.
