PETROL prices are giving everyone the blues - even those who drive under the blues and twos!

Suffolk police today revealed it is the latest organisation in the county to be forced into action by Britain's crippling fuel prices.

The force is acting fast to reduce the bills from its fleet of cars and is even looking to the future by seeking out the improved fuel efficiency of diesel.

With the east of England now one of the most expensive places in the country to fill up your car, all sorts of people and groups are looking at ways of limiting the damage in their wallet.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: “We are affected like any other organisation.

“We do encourage officers and staff to refuel at retail outlets that have the lowest priced fuel where available.

“Suffolk Constabulary is also switching more and more to diesel vehicles which gives better miles to the gallon than petrol.

“The figure now is around 70per cent of our fleet is on diesel which obviously not only keeps fuel costs lower but it also means lower emissions.”

The Evening Star Petrol PriceWatch service aims to give you the upper hand over petrol retailers and oil companies. It provides the latest prices available in and around Ipswich for both unleaded and diesel and alerts you to the cheapest petrol stations while warns you of the ones to avoid.

Today the cheapest unleaded fuel could be found for 103.9p at six petrol stations, all in Ipswich, while in Felixstowe at the BP station on Anzani Avenue motorists were being asked to fork out 108.9 for their fuel.
