Police were tonight searching for a motorist involved in a Christmas Eve hit-and-run accident in which a grandmother suffered fatal injuries.

Investigators think that mother-of-two Katherine Aldridge, 67, was hit by a small red vehicle near her home in Pulham St Mary, Norfolk.

Mrs Aldridge died in hospital on Christmas Day after being hurt as she walked in the village at about 6pm on Thursday, police said.

"The Serious Collision Investigation Team is keen to find a small red vehicle, possibly with a windowed van-type rear body," said a police spokesman.

"The vehicle may have a smashed rear window. A disabled-type sticker was possibly in the rear window.'

He said officers were also trying to trace the driver of a light- coloured saloon car thought to have seen the accident.
