Detectives investigating the theft of almost £100 from an animal rescue charity shop in Ipswich have released a CCTV image of a man they want to question.

A bag containing £96 was stolen when staff at the Suffolk Animal Rescue charity shop in Felixstowe Road were cashing up for the day on October 20.

A woman, who volunteers at the shop, was putting the day’s takings in a bag at some point between 3.40pm and 4pm when a man approached her and started asking questions to distract her.

He grabbed a bag of money and pushed the woman over, causing an injury to her hips. He then fled from the shop with the money and ran across the road, causing several vehicles to stop.

The man is described as being in his 40s, 6ft tall and slim. He is white with a tan, has dark brown curly hair which is swept to one side, and is described as English and well-spoken. He was wearing dark slim fit trousers or jeans, black shoes, and a navy blue waterproof winter jacket.

The CCTV image, released today by Suffolk Constabulary, was captured close to the charity shop at around the time of the theft. Police would like to identify the man as they believe he could help with their enquiries.

Last month, police released an e-fit image of the suspect. A force spokesman said the e-fit image is still being used as part of their enquiries.

Anyone who saw someone who matched this description, recognise the man from the CCTV image or have any information that could help police, call PC Colin Shelton at Ipswich Police on 101, quoting reference number IE/14/3085 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
