DETECTIVES investigating a robbery in Ipswich today released descriptions of the two men responsible.

DETECTIVES investigating a robbery in Ipswich today released descriptions of the two men responsible.

The raid took place in Westgate Street at around 4.30pm yesterday.

A 42-year-old security guard had collected a cash box from WH Smith and was about to put it in the van when he was struck on the back of his helmet.

The security guard was uninjured but left extremely shaken.

The man grabbed the cash box and fled along Westgate Street. He was joined by another man on the corner of Providence Street, before running up Providence Street, leaping over the barrier into the NCP car park and heading off towards High Street.

Both men were in their late teens to early 20s, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins and of medium build.

Detective Kevin Hayward from Ipswich CID said: “We are extremely keen to hear from anyone who may have any information in relation to this incident.

“I ask you all to be vigilant and contact police immediately if you find a cash box or cash bag matching those in the pictures we have released.”
