RAF Mildenhall has today confirmed the identity of an airman who was killed in a car crash on Wednesday morning.

Senior Airman Stephen K Walker, 23, was assigned to the 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in August 2006.

Mr Walker was travelling eastbound on the A14 when his white Nissan Almera car was involved in a collision with a lorry at 4am, near Newmarket.

The incident turned into a six vehicle pile-up and caused gridlock along the busy dual carraigeway for more than eight hours.

Other drivers involved in the collision came away uninjured, but the American was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cambridgeshire Police have launched an investigation in the cause of the fatal accident
