A MOTORCYCLIST killed in an accident on the A12 was a sergeant with Essex Police, it has emerged.

Robert Walsham, who lived in Hadleigh, Suffolk, died in the crash near East Bergholt at about 2.30pm yesterday.

Sgt Walsham, who worked in the Colchester police division and had also worked in Tendring, was riding a purple Kawasaki motorbike when it was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman driver of the car was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened on the southbound carriageway and caused the road to be closed for more than eight hours.
