Police have been carrying out work in the Shackleton Road area of Ipswich over the last few days.
Police attended after receiving reports of possible threats being made towards an individual, with witnesses reporting seeing armed officers.
More officers stopped a vehicle on the A12 southbound near Capel just after midnight on Wednesday (April 6), and detained a 36-year-old man from Saxmundham.
He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The man was taken into custody at the Police Investigation Centre in Martlesham where he was interviewed by officers.
He has now been bailed to return to police on May 25 to allow further enquiries to be carried out.
