A man was found bleeding in the street after a fight broke out in Hawke Road last night, police have said.

Officers patrolling the area following two stabbings in Landseer Road and Hilton Road earlier this week arrived on scene within three minutes.

They were called at 9.50pm and discovered a fight had broken out between a group of people. After conducting a search of the area they found a man had been injured as a result of being involved.

He was found in Landseer Road with a head injury – police believe he may have been hit with a glass bottle.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Enquiries are continuing but detectives are not linking the incident to either of the stabbings at this stage, a police spokesman said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the fight.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the Nacton Road area this week after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in Landseer Road, Ipswich, on Saturday.

This was followed by a double stabbing in Hilton Road overnight on Monday – prompting an even greater police presence in the area.

On Thursday this newspaper launched a campaign calling for an end to knife crime in Suffolk and Essex.

Supporting the good work already being done by police forces and charities, the campaign aims to highlight the devastating impact of knife crime on its victims and their families.

It also hopes to educate readers about the dangers of knife crime.
