SIX days before the much-awaited return of the derby between the The Blues and their arch rivals Norwich City, Ipswich police are gearing up for what they hope will be a trouble-free visit.

Superintendent Carl Puly who is leading the police operation, today said: "Our policing arrangements are aimed to ensure everyone can see this local derby in an enjoyable, trouble-free atmosphere.

"The vast majority of both Ipswich and Norwich fans have an excellent reputation both at home and away games. As the match is being held at midday on Sunday we are confident they will maintain their usual high standard on the day."

The operation on Sunday will involve about 300 police officers including 25 from Norfolk, together with the British Transport Police (BTP).

Supt Puly added: "The game is a sell-out and we are expecting approximately 2,200 Norwich fans.''

The last derby was in March 2000.
