A SUFFOLK College student today told of the moment yobs shot her with a BB gun in a drive-by style attack as she walked along an Ipswich road in broad daylight.

The 17-year-old, who does not want to be named, had finished lectures and was walking home along Landseer Road, near to the junction with Cliff Lane, when a white estate van drove past.

She said she heard the gun being fired and then felt a sharp pain in her leg.

The shooting, at 2.30pm on March 16, was the second such incident in a matter of days.

A 17-year-old male was hit in the back by a BB pellet as he walked along Hawthorn Drive, near to the doctor's surgery, on March 13 at 2.30pm.

Similar white van-style vehicles were used in both offences.

Police have now linked the two incidents and are appealing for help from the public to catch the culprits.

The teenager shot in the second attack said: “It really hurt. When I got home, I looked at my leg and there was a big lump.

“I couldn't see inside the car, but I saw the window was wound down.

“I didn't want to report it but my mum was really angry so she called the police.

“The officers were really good. They said it was classed as assault and needed to be treated seriously.”

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Sgt Karl Nightingale at Ipswich police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
