The incident took place in Bramford Road at 3.30pm.
A man called at the address of a 65-year-old woman claiming he was there to service her boiler. He went to the boiler cupboard in the hallway and into the kitchen to turn the water off.
He then asked the woman to go to the kitchen and get a pen and when she returned he had gone. After he had left she realised that her black leather handbag had been stolen from the living room and her medication had been stolen from the kitchen.
The man was white, aged in his late 40s, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 7ins, of medium build, with short shaven/bald hair and was wearing blue overalls.
