POLICE have today released a Suffolk councillor who was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of his long-term partner was found at her Brandon home.

Peter Wackett, 60, who serves on Forest Heath District Council, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Wackett, who represents the Brandon West ward for the conservative group, has been bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on Thursday February 20.

The 60-year-old was arrested by police on Friday in connection with the sudden death of 46-year-old Ann North.

Her body was discovered by Mr Wackett at a house in Rought Avenue, Brandon, at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Officers have now left the address where Mrs North's body was found.

Ms North, originally from Leeds, ran the Greene King pub with Mr Wackett for five years before new tenants took over on Monday.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital on Thursday to ascertain a cause of death. A Suffolk Police spokesman said yesterday that further tests were to be conducted.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who saw or spoke to Ann North between Monday January 13 and Wednesday January 15 to contact Suffolk Police immediately on 01473 613500.
