This is the first glimpse inside the eight hours of questioning during which police grilled Steve Wright over the murder of five Ipswich prostitutes.

Throughout the quizzing Wright refused to answer any questions, answering only no comment.

He was warned that doing so could harm his defence, and the prosecution later accused of deliberately keeping quiet so that he could making up a cover story that fitted around the evidence against him.

In the clip, you can hear police officers encourage Wright to talk.

The interviewer says: “You need to speak to us Steve. You need to tell us what was going through your mind at the time.

“You need to tell us what's going through your mind now and how you feel about it now.

“This is your earliest opportunity to give an account and that is significant because it makes a difference.

“You need to give us an account as to what's happened.

“We have got the last girl to go missing with your DNA and the one before with your DNA.

“Both on their naked bodies. How can that be?”
