A WOMAN is recovering in hospital today after she threatened to throw herself from the Orwell Bridge.
Paramedics rescued the 40-year-old last night when she threatened to jump from the bridge on the A14.
Paramedics, police and the coastguard were called to the scene about 9.20pm.
A friend of the woman contacted police at 9.15pm raising concerns for her welfare.
Officers then began a search but were called to the bridge five minutes later by ambulance crews.
Police closed off the road and worked with paramedics to get the woman safely into an ambulance.
A spokeswoman for the force said she was threatening suicide.
Holbrook Coastguard and the Harwich lifeboat were called but they were stood down at 9.33pm when police and ambulance crews detained the woman. She was taken to Ipswich Hospital.
