A BOMB alert at one of the region's cathedrals has ended after disposal experts found a suspect package to be harmless.

Police have sealed off Cathedral Square in Peterborough after a member of the public reported seeing a suspicious bag at shortly before 1pm.

A number of shops falling within the cordon were closed while police investigate and pedestrians were re-directed.

Bomb disposal experts were called in to examine the package which was found to be harmless.

The cordon was lifted at around 4.15pm.
