Norfolk police has thanked both Ipswich Town and Norwich City supporters for their behaviour at today’s East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.

Officers made 12 arrests in the lead-up and during the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw after Timm Klose’s injury time equaliser cancelled out Luke Chambers’ 89th minute goal for the Blues.

Seven supporters were arrested for criminal damage offences, three were arrested for assaults and two fans were arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Police also handed out several ‘direction to leave’ notices to fans at the game, which attracted a crowd of 27,100.

Nearly 2,000 Town fans travelled to Norwich for the game, and Norfolk Constabulary said they were met with friendly, but firm policing.

• Player ratings from the East Anglian derbySuperintendent Dave Marshall, match-day policing commander, said: “Overall there was good spirit between both sets of fans resulting in minimal disorder.

“The policing operation was firm in places and these tactics were used to ensure supporters enjoyed the game and journeys to and from the stadium in a safe environment.

“A number of fans were given direction to leave notices as a result of their behaviour; which was enough to cause concern for officers who took this reactive measure in a bid to prevent disorder.

“These supporters had been spoken to by police and were fully aware of the standards of behaviour expected, but sadly their conduct fell short of this resulting in police taking action.

“Additional cordons were also put in place to ensure the safety of those attending after the match and I would like to thank away fans for their patience and their co-operation during this time.”
