DETECTIVES investigating an allegation of rape are making a fresh appeal for witnesses after looking at new CCTV images.

The attack on the 21-year-old woman is reported to have happened between 2.45am and 3.15am yesterday in the area of the Tower Ramparts shopping centre.

Police need to trace two men who were seen talking to two young women and a man in Lloyds Avenue between 2.45am and 3.15am. The three other people have already been identified.

Officers would also particularly like to talk to anyone who spoke to a young woman sitting on the steps of Mecca Bingo between these times.

Detective chief inspector Mark Jepson, who is leading the investigation, said: “From viewing CCTV we know that a number of people drove along Crown Street and St Matthew's Street between these times and we need them to come forward.

“You may think that you saw nothing or that what you saw will be of no help - but please let us be the judge of that. We need to be able to put together a full picture of what has occurred.”

Police are continuing to ask anyone with CCTV cameras that may cover the area to contact Ipswich CID as soon as possible.

Anyone with information, or who was in the area of Lloyds Avenue in the early hours of yesterday morning, should contact Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
