HER Majesty the Queen has sent a special message to the town as it prepares for next month’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Mayor John Le Grys invited The Queen or other members of the Royal Family to the Last Night of the Proms celebration in Christchurch Park on June 30.

A reply from the Queen’s diary secretary said that members of the Royal Family were committed on that date, but said Her Majesty sent her best wishes to the people of Ipswich and hoped they would enjoy celebrating the Diamond Jubilee.

The town will be celebrating the Jubilee on June 3 and 4 with a celebration lunch, a picnic in the park and the lighting of two beacons – one in Christchurch Park and one on the Endeavour House roof.

To celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) is calling for nominations from around the country for “Diamond Champions”, people aged over 60 who volunteer in their communities and go the extra mile to make a real difference to others’ lives.

Sixty entries will be shortlisted for each region by a judging panel.
