A MAGNIFICENT sailing barque which was due to dock in Ipswich today has been delayed due to poor weather conditions.

Picton Castle should have arrived at 3pm but after three days at anchor, she will not reach Suffolk shores until tomorrow lunchtime.

Picton Castle has a fascinating history and has undergone a stunning transformation.

She was built as a then state of the art motor trawler in 1928, later seeing active service as a mine sweeper during the Second World War, then becoming a working freighter, and finally being converted into a square rigged sailing barque.

During her last time in Ipswich in the winter of 1992/93, Picton Castle was a neglected freighter and unrecognisable as the beautiful ship she is today.
