RAM raiders targeted a post office in Wickhambrook in the early hours of this morning.
At shortly after 12.30am a Landrover reversed into the front of the shop on Thomas Corner and three offenders dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas entered the premises.
After searching the store they left empty handed in another vehicle.
The Landrover, which was stolen from outside an address in Glemsford, was left at the scene.
Sergeant Andy Footer from Suffolk police said: "Although the offenders left empty handed they caused considerable damage to the front of the store, destroying the door, window and wall.
"We are keen to hear from anyone who has information relating to the offence."
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the theft of the Landrover from Fern Hill in Glemsford.
It was taken between 10pm on Wednesday and the time of the ram raid.
Police currently have no details of the second vehicle but believe it may have been abandoned nearby.
Sgt Footer added: "We would like to hear from anyone who has seen a recently abandoned vehicle in the vicinity if Wickhambrook"
Anyone with information should contact Haverhill CID on 01284 774 100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
