Postie tells of hit-and-run attack

A 20-YEAR-OLD man was in shock today after being knocked off his pushbike in a hit and run incident in Felixstowe.

Vince Cook was hit by a car on a roundabout on the junction of the Mill Lane, Wadgate Road and Stour Avenue.

The postie was taken to Felixstowe General Hospital with a head injury but was back at home for the weekend.

Mr Cook, who lives in Mill Lane, said: "I was on my bicycle on my way to my sister's house and stopped to let a car go round the roundabout when a car came up behind me.

"I heard a screeching noise. The car hit the back of my bike and I hit my face on the pavement. The driver definitely saw me because they drove round me but carried on going, which was odd. I don't know why.

"My injuries could have been worse. I am still in shock. I am still trying to work it out in my head why he carried on going. I still can't believe it happened.

"I still have to go out on my bike because I work for Royal Mail, but it will take a little while to do that."

The car involved was red in colour, but Mr Cook did not manage to catch the make of the car or its number plate.

It is thought that the car may have a broken headlight after the incident.

Mr Cook, who also works at a bingo hall in Felixstowe, sustained cuts and bruising in the incident just before 4.30 pm, on Thursday.

He was able to make his way back to his Mill Lane home, which was two minutes up the road. But the journey took 20 minutes because of the shock of the fall.

His friends at the house called for an ambulance and police were informed.

Friend Kirsty Ogden, 17, also of Mill Lane, said: "When he came back he was a mess. He banged his head quite badly. It was my bike and the bike seat has been ripped and the reflector off the back was knocked off.

"I am angry that the driver because he carried on going."
