CONFUSED cinema-goers were left in the dark after a power cut stopped their films short.

The power-cut hit the UGC cinema and surrounding Cardinal Park area in Ipswich at around 4pm yesterday.

Customers were evacuated from the cinema mid-film and forced to wait around outside until power was restored to the cinema at around 5pm.

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy said: "Power supplies to 281 customers in the Cardinal Park area of Ipswich were interrupted shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon after a fault on an underground cable.

"Power to many of those customers was restored within one minute.

"Further restorations were carried out between 5pm and 6pm. Further repairs and investigations into the cause of the fault are continuing today.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this incident caused."

She said no compensation would be paid out as the power was not off for long enough: "I don't know what the circumstances were in this case but most big businesses have their own back-up generators."
