ENERGY bills for thousands of homes in Suffolk are set to soar this winter after one of the country's biggest power companies announced price rises.
Npower said the cost of the average electricity bill would climb by £64 a year, and gas bills are set to soar by an average £95 a year.
The price rises will take effect immediately meaning customers of Npower will see the increases on their next bills - and experts predict other power companies will soon match the increases.
Npower, the country's fourth largest energy supplier, blamed the hikes on a rise in the wholesale price of gas and electricity which it claims have risen by more than 60pc since last February.
It said an increase in the distribution costs on gas had also contributed to the need to raise the prices paid by householders.
