A VILLAGE priest told today how Capel residents were praying for the family of murdered pensioner Joan Albert.

Rev David Gardner, minister of St Mary Methodist Church, which is just minutes from the victims Boydlands home, said members of his congregation were also praying for other elderly folk.

Though Mrs Albert had not been a member of his congregation others in her quiet cul-de-sac were, he said.

"We have a prayer circle. When something serious or important happens we have a system where you can ring one or another and ask to remember, in this particular case, the family in our prayers and all elderly people."

The prayer circle had been contacted on Sunday afternoon following news of Mrs Albert's death and churchgoers remembering her, her family and the elderly in their prayers.

"I think everybody will be feeling a bit worried and concerned. Like most things we tend to think things happen somewhere else," he said.

"I've been here three years and I don't think (Capel) has been in the news for any serious crime."
