IT was hats off to the pupils at Ranelagh Primary School when they put their skills to the test with a creative design and technology day.

The children took a break from their normal numeracy and literacy classes and spent the day making a magnificent array of hats.

Teacher Nicky Thacker organised the day and said the children came up with some millinery magic.

"The staff thought a hat was simply a hat but the children came up with so many wonderful designs which looked superb," Miss Thacker said.

The day was to help raise money for the Stroke Society's National Hat Day and Ranelagh pupils raised £76 for the fund.
