POLICE are today still appealing for information following the serious sexual assault of a woman in Ipswich.

The 31-year-old victim was dragged by two men into the car park next to the Regent theatre in St Helen's Street and assaulted early yesterday.

She had spent Thursday evening in the town with a friend when they went to the Hawk Express taxi rank in Old Foundry Road. The friend went home in a taxi while the victim waited for another.

She was then approached by two men, taken to the car park and attacked. Afterwards, she made her way to a telephone booth at Major's Corner and called her friend for help.

A passing motorist stopped and took her to the friend's house, where they phoned the police. Specially trained officers later interviewed her.

Police want to hear from anyone in the area of the Hawk Express taxi rank, Regent car park or Major's Corner between midnight and 4am that day, particularly the person who drive her to her friend's house.

They would also like to hear from people who saw a woman with two men.

Detective Superintendent Stuart McCallum said: "The victim has quite understandably been left distraught by this traumatic serious sexual assault. Officers will continue to support her."

Anyone with information should call Det Supt Stuart McCallum at Ipswich CID on 383013 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
