ANOTHER pop spectacular could be on its way to Ipswich.

The event has yet to be confirmed but if all goes to plan and the event does go ahead, chart-toppers Blue could be taking to the stage in Christchurch Park in July.

Blue Friday was due to be announced last week but news that One Big Sunday is heading back to town forced the show's promoters to put their event on hold.

However, the biggest boy band of the moment remain tentatively booked in for a performance in Ipswich on July 26.

And if the music spectacular goes ahead they will be performing alongside some of pop's most exciting bands and artists, including Liberty X, allSTARS , 3SL, The Magnets, Pop Idol's Rik Waller and Aurora.

Blue Friday, which would be presented in association with the Evening Star and SGR FM, has been pencilled in for July 26 as part of two days of music to be staged in the natural concert bowl at the town centre park. The Saturday night will offer music lovers a traditional classical concert complete with a display by the Red Devils.

Suffolk-based promoter John Hessenthaler, who is working with Because We Can in the hope of bringing the event to Ipswich, today confirmed he was in talks to bring Blue to Ipswich. He said: "Blue have been tentatively booked for the park and we're just awaiting confirmation.

"We're still hoping that they and a host of other top bands will be here on July 26 and hope to make an announcement soon."

Plans for Blue Friday were put on ice following last week's news that Radio 1 were bringing One Big Sunday back to Chantry Park on July 14. However, it is still hoped that the two pop spectaculars will be able to go ahead less than two weeks apart and turn July into a month to remember.

Meanwhile the classical concert is confirmed and ready to go ahead as planned on July 27.

The event will compliment and contrast with the Friday night of pop, whoever is on the bill, and promises to be a great night out for people who enjoy the pomp and circumstance of a traditional Last Night of the Proms-style concert.

The Royal Jubilee Festival Orchestra, put together to perform across the country in celebration of the Queen's golden jubilee, will perform at the event, called Aero Proms, which comes with the added treat of an aerobatic display by the Red Devils.

During the concert interval the crowd will be kept enthralled by a spectacular airborne show, complete with coloured smoke trailing behind the planes against the dusk sky and parachutists descending on the town.

The event will be conducted by Woodbridge-based conductor, Leslie Olive, who has gained an impressive national reputation, and compered by BBC Radio Suffolk's Roger Woods.

Mr Hessenthaler said: "We're trying to give the night a bit of an edge, rather than it being a straight forward classical concert.

"The Red Devils will give it that extra something."
