Protesters arrested at Suffolk base

POLICE were today questioning 15 people after the perimeter fence was breached at USAF Mildenhall.The arrests were made after the fence at the giant USAF base – the largest in Britain – was cut at about 11am on Sunday morning.

FIFTEEN protestors have today been released on bail by Ministry of Defence police after the perimeter fence was breached at USAF Mildenhall.

The arrests were made after the fence at the giant USAF base – the largest in Britain – was cut at about 11am on Sunday morning.

The 15 arrested are all believed to be students from the Cambridge area and are understood to have been protesting about the possibility of war in Iraq.

A spokesman for the MoD said the protesters were arrested shortly after getting through the hole in the fence.

"The protesters did cause damage to the perimeter fence by getting through a hole which they made in the fence," said the MoD spokesman.

"In getting onto the site there was a breach of security. There was no further breach of security after that."
