THOUSANDS of protesters from across the UK and around the world descended on London today for a huge march, kicking of a week of demonstrations ahead of the G20 summit.

Today's march was for "jobs, justice and climate" and campaigners waving flags and placards braved the rain to take part in the Put People First march.

Today's march featured an alliance of 150 groups, including unions, charities, environmental campaigners and faith organisations.

A massive police operation was launched as officers warned of an "unprecedented'' threat posed by the protests, but the organisers stressed today's events would not turn violent.
