CUSTOMERS at the Wheatsheaf in Tattingstone will be going bonkers over conkers on Saturday for the pub's annual conker knockout competition.

The event at the pub in Church Street kicks off at 6.30pm with a childrens' competition with adults beginning their knockout at 7pm.

It costs 50p to enter and all proceeds will go to a charity of the winner's choice.

"The conker competition is a really popular event in this area," said landlady Marion Wilson.

"Last year we had over 40 people take part and this year we are hoping that over 50 will come along and join in the fun to raise as much money as possible for a local cause."

Conker and string will be provided in a bid to cut out any cheating and an independent adjudicator will be on hand to check the size and weight of all conkers.

"The competition is an established community event and I am sure that this year will be even more successful," said Pubmaster regional manager, Patti Lamont.

"Community events such as this one feature heavily in pubmaster pubs, which not only provide a fun night but also help local charities."
