A 53-year-old Ipswich man headbutted a female pub manager in the mouth after she threw him out during an 30th wedding anniversary party.

Jonathan Pack, of Foxhall Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting Louise Green when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

The incident occurred on August 22 at The Golf public house in Foxhall Road where Pack had been a regular for 15 years, the court heard.

Pack must now pay the bar manager £200 compensation. Magistrates also ordered him to pay fines, charges, and costs totalling a further £440.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said the incident occurred during the party which was attended by regular customers.

An argument broke out during which Pack was said to have slapped one of the partygoers.

Ms Green got in between the pair and put her arms out to separate them.

Pack objected to Ms Green’s involvement and was told to leave the pub.

Mrs Harper said about 10 seconds later Pack was still in the pub and was told police would be called.

He then began to leave but stopped to eat food which had been laid out for the party.

Magistrates heard when Ms Green again told him to go Pack put his hands behind his back, leant forward and butted her in the mouth.

Larissa Hutson, mitigating, said her client told police he did not have a recollection of the events that night at all.

She added: “He did express remorse and disgust at his own behaviour. He is deeply ashamed. It’s a pub he’s been to for 15 years.”

The court heard Pack knows he will not be welcome back.

He had consumed five to six large glasses of wine before leaving home as he had just got engaged.

Pack then drank more alcohol in the pub.

Magistrates were told Pack is now in poor health after suffering two strokes three months ago.
