A VILLAGE pub could be run by residents for a month as part of a reality television programme.

The Swan pub in Alderton, near Woodbridge, has been the subject of controversy in the village after owners Peter and Patricia Saxon applied to change its use into a private house following a lack of trade in the current economic climate.

Residents decided to take action and are set to form a consortium to buy the pub to prevent its closure.

Now, thanks to interest from a small film company, the pub could be star of a real-life documentary whereby residents run it for four weeks.

Mr Saxon, who has owned the pub since 2004, said he was excited about the programme and hoped it would lead to keeping his pub open.

He also encouraged people to come to the pub at 7pm today to meet the producer and discuss the concept.

Mr Saxon said: “We would love the pub to be a success. If this changes things, then the pub has got to be used by people.”

If the reality show goes ahead, filming would start in April and the documentary would be shown on digital channel Dave TV, which predominantly consists of comedy shows.
