Richard Haining, 58, died on Wednesday evening as emergency services tried to take him to hospital.
Firefighters were called by the East of England Ambulance Service to the Golden Key pub in Woodbridge Road for their assistance.
The crews were required to make the access bigger to allow Mr Haining to be taken down in a stretcher through the first floor window.
Firefighters were equipped with a turntable ladder, which had a stretcher attached to it.
But it is believed that as the rescue operation was in progress, Mr Haining suffered a cardiac arrest and died.
