A WOMAN who burst into a flat, grabbed a former flatmate's hair and threw punches at her has been sentenced for assault.

South East Suffolk Magistrates sentenced Carrie Morse to a 60 hour community penalty for assault causing actual bodily harm at Ipswich's YMCA in Wellington Street.

The court heard 22-year-old Morse went to the victim's flat in September last year and when the door opened pushed her way in.

She grabbed the woman's hair, yanking her head, then hit her, said prosecutor David Taylor.

He added Morse, of Ranelagh Road, Ipswich, admitted assault on the basis that she had punched the woman twice in the face.

Ian Devine, mitigating, told magistrates there was a history between the two.

The victim and her partner used to live with Morse earlier in the year.

"After they left my client found various items missing from her home address," said Devine.

"The knock on affect was it caused problems between the two…There had been contact between the two but it hadn't been openly friendly."

He said Morse went round to the woman's home following two phone calls and was also injured in the incident – although had received only a minor injury.

Chairman of the bench Jim Wyllie ordered Morse to pay £30 costs and to pay £50 compensation to the victim.
